Women's tennis sees a big win in doubles bracket at ITA Regionals
Oct. 11, 2012
While the conditions at the ITA Mountain Regionals in Vegas were gloomy, no one could rain on a good day for Montana's doubles players Laurence Pelchat and Heather Davidson. On day two of the tournament on the UNLV campus, Pelchat and Davidson defeated the third seed from the University of Utah 8-4. The victory advances the pair into the sweet 16 round of the regionals. This is the third year in a row a Montana doubles team has earned a spot in the sweet 16. "I am pleased at the level of competitive fire that Heather and Laurence are playing with," said head coach Steve Ascher. "Their decision making has been excellent and the ability to work through the big points has proven to be the edge." Haley Driver defeated the 11 seed in singles on the first day of the tournament. Rain has caused play to be delayed. Rounds have had to be moved around, and the tournament may be extended. Only one round of doubles was played on Thursday. Play on Friday will be all singles matches. GoGriz.com will have a recap following completion of competition.
