The Grizzly women's tennis team completed its three-match weekend with a 6-1 win over conference opponent Idaho State Sunday in Pocatello, Idaho. The Grizzlies improve to 3-0 in Big Sky play with the win. Montana defeated Weber State and Utah State Friday and Saturday with scores of 7-0 and 5-2. Sophomores Ashley Mackey and Maddy Murray as well as freshmen Precious Gbadamosi and Sasha Carter all went undefeated on the weekend and only dropped two sets combined between all of them. Montana also swept the doubles point against the Bengals and won eight out of nine doubles matches on the weekend. Junior Heather Davidson claimed Montana's fifth point in the No. 1 match over Katharina Marsella in three sets with scores of 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. After losing the doubles point, Idaho State came out tough in its recently renovated indoor facilty winning in the No. 2 match. Idaho State's Laura Porras defeated Montana freshman Laurence Pelchat in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. "Idaho State came out with a strong competitive spirit," said coach Steve Ascher. "Our team continued to show mental toughness in staying right with Idaho State early, and ultimately eclipsing them to get the win. "I was very impressed with the indoor facility on Idaho State's campus. Idaho State has done a nice job improving their indoor tennis courts and building a good facility to compete in." Montana will take a week off then hit the road for the last time before a four-match home stand. The Griz will travel to Arizona to take on Northern Arizona on Flagstaff and Grand Canyon in Mesa, Ariz., Mar. 23-24.
