Women's tennis opens season with a 4-3 loss at Minnesota

Jan. 19, 2013

The Montana Grizzly women's tennis team fell to No. 41 Minnesota 4-3 Saturday evening in Minneapolis.

The team picked up a point right away by winning two of the three doubles match-ups. Precious Gbadamosi and Ashley Mackey won their match as well as duo Laurence Pelchat and Heather Davidson.

From there, it was a neck-in-neck battle for the win. Gbadamosi lost her singles match, putting Minnesota on the board. Pelchat and Driver picked up wins in their singles matches.

Head coach Steve Ascher was pleased with his players' perfomance.

"The team came out and competed at a very high level," said Ascher. "Practices have been good. That translated to a strong performance in Minneapolis. It was an excellent job earning the doubles point, and for our first match of the year, we came out and established the level we are ready to compete at."

Montana will head back out on the courts tomorrow at 10 a.m. to take on Marquette in Minneapolis. The team will give live updates via Facebook and Twitter. A full recap will follow completion of competition on GoGriz.com.
