Aspinwall, Campbell named All-BSC

Juniors Sara Aspinwall and Sara Campbell were named to the All-Big Sky Conference second team the league office announced on Tuesday. The Grizzlies also had five other players recognized as honorable mention all-conference.

Aspinwall, a defender from Great Falls, Mont., was one of four Grizzlies to have played and started in all 17 matches in 2007. She notched a goal and an assist this season from the back line, registering 12 total shots with five of those coming on goal.

Aspinwall???s second-half score against Detroit, a header off a corner kick in the 71st minute, proved to be the game-winner for the Grizzlies. Aspinwall, an honorable mention all-conference pick a year ago, tied for third on the team with three total points.

Campbell, a midfielder from Billings, Mont., registered two goals while playing 15 matches this season, a starter in 11 of UM???s contests. Campbell ranked second on the team in total points (4) and goals (2). She also ranked second on the team with 17 shots taken, while leading the team in shots on goal with 11.

Campbell tallied her scores in back-to-back games at BYU and Northern Arizona. She registered an unassisted goal in the 67th minute of the Grizzlies??? 2-1 loss at BYU. Campbell scored the game-winner against the Lumberjacks, giving Montana a 1-0 advantage just six minutes into the contest. She was an honorable mention all-league selection last year.

The five honorable mention all-conference honorees for UM include: senior midfielder Laura Nogueira, junior midfielder Rachael Mayer, sophomore defender Abby Grafft, sophomore forward Britta Bourne and freshman forward Kaitlyn Heinsohn.

Montana ended the 2007 season with an overall mark of 3-12-2, while finishing eighth in the league standings with a 1-4-2 conference record. The Grizzlies, who graduate three seniors from this year???s squad, are projected to return nine starters and 16 letterwinners for 2008.
