The University of Montana golf team travels to Austin, Texas, to compete in the Challenge at Onion Creek hosted by Texas State. The tournament tees off Monday and concludes Tuesday and will be the last outing for Griz until 2012.

Coach Emily Milberger says Onion Creek will be the toughest competition her team has seen yet. The field includes Arkansas-Little Rock, Augusta State, College of Charleston, Columbia, East Carolina, Indiana, McNeese State, Michigan, Texas Tech, Washington State and Xavier along with host Texas State.

Two of the 13 teams Montana will face are ranked top 50 in the nation according to Golfweek.com, Texas Tech at 24 and East Carolina at 47. Michigan and Augusta State are barely out of that category ranked 51 and 53 respectively. Montana is currently ranked 129 according to the site.

Competing for the Griz will be seniors Ashli Helstrom and Lauren Howell, junior Olivia Weber, sophomore Natalie Beard and freshman Tara Green.

Montana is coming off its best tournament of the season finishing fourth in the Memphis Fall Invitational in October.

Howell led the Grizzlies finishing in fifth place shooting 13-over-par at the event. Howell's efforts in Memphis earned her a Big Sky Golfer of the Week honor.

Montana will have a practice round Sunday then begin tournament play on Monday. The 54-hole tournament will tee off with a shotgun start at 7:00 a.m. both Monday and Tuesday.

GoGriz.com will provide a recap each day after play concludes along with full results on Tuesday after the tournament. Live stats will be provided via Golfstat.com.
