Montana's Tara Green, a junior-to-be, shot a 2-under 69 and tied for sixth at The Barn Amateur, held Friday at The Barn Golf Club in Pleasant View, Utah. What makes this particularly newsworthy? Green was competing in the male-dominated championship flight and playing from the men's tees.

Playing at the one-round tournament not far from her home in Harrisville, Green finished her day with four birdies and just two bogeys to come in four strokes behind winner Jake Peterson.

"I putted really well, and I didn't have any of those stupid mistakes that sometimes hurt my rounds," Green said. "It was just a nice solid round."

The Barn plays to 6,131 yards from the back tees, which is shorter than seven of Montana's 11 tournament courses last year, but "it's pretty tight, with a lot of trees," Green added.

Green was one of three women playing in the 39-golfer championship flight, which was limited to players holding a 2.5 handicap index or lower.

Two players shot rounds of 67, two more shot 68. Three of the five men who defeated Green are Division I golfers.

Green, who tied for second last month at the Mary Lou Baker Open at the Eaglewood Golf Course in North Salt Lake, will next compete at the 107th Utah State Women's Amateur Championship, to be held at the Wasatch Mountain State Park Golf Course in Midway.

The four-day tournament will employ stroke play Aug. 5-6 to determine the championship field of 16. Match play will determine the Utah state champion, with the round of 16 and quarterfinals being contested Aug. 7 and the semifinals and championship match Aug. 8.

Green has advanced to the semifinals of the tournament the last three years.
