Grizzlies falter in the face of tough competition

Day Two Results

Grizzly tennis Coach Kris Nord said that the competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Intermountain Regional in Las Vegas would be the toughest his team would see all year. He wasn't exaggerating.

The Grizzlies struggled in the second day of competition at the regional, all three doubles teams were eliminated from the tournament and three of the six individual players were also eliminated.

The team of sophomore Ethan Vaughn and junior Michael Facey were relegated to the consolation bracket after losing their second-round match to Weber State's Oliver Good and Simon Unger 8-2. They were eliminated after they lost to Robin Chou and Kieren Thompson from Arizona in the second round consolation match.

Senior Carl Kuschke and sophomore Mikolaj Caruk won their first-round consolation match but were eliminated from competition by Northern Colorado's Ben Gendron and Brandon Lupo in their second-round bout.

Senior Ben DeMarois and junior Andrew Warren were also eliminated after losing their second-round consolation bout, they were defeated by 13th seeded Othar kordsachia and Yannick Weihs from Denver University.

In singles action the Grizzlies went 4-5 overall on the day with Demarois , Facey and Vaughn all being eliminated from play.

 

 

Kuschke was relegated to the consolation bracket after his second-round loss to Andy Bettles from Boise State, but defeated Peter Ramstromer-Pello from Weber State in the second-round consolation match to stay alive.

Caruk and Warren followed the same path to the third round of the consolation bracket and remain alive.

All three remaining grizzlies will meet their third-round consolation foes tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at the Darling Tennis Center.
