The University of Montana men's tennis team saw several strong performances at the Eastern Washington Fall Invite in Cheney, Wash.

Junior Eric Braun teamed up with Cesar Torres from Idaho to win the doubles bracket. Torres was paired with Vaughn after Andrew MacFarlane was injured. The pair went on to defeat fourth-seeded UM teammates Andrew Warren and Ethan Vaughnto nab a spot in the final round. Braun and Torres beat Gonzaga pair Jack Schoebel and Olivier Jamin to claim their final round doubles victory.

"I am really glad to have Eric do so well," said head coach Kris Nord. "He is playing really strong tennis."

On the singles front, Ethan Vaughnprogressed in the top flight to the quarterfinal after defeating Torres, who was ranked seventh in the tournament.

In the consolation bracket, freshman Semion Branzburgprogressed to the quarterfinal after having two byes in the first and second round. He was then beat by Torres. Senior Mike Facey made it to the semifinals after downing Zach Kosanke of Seattle University, and senior Warren took second on the consolation bracket after being defeated by Tomas Aranquiz of Eastern Washington.

"I am pretty happy on how we did," says Nord. "We had tougher competition and we competed better. Gonzaga had a really dominant team, and we had several good matches with them. It was a little better than last weekend with both singles and doubles. We still have a few guys not hitting the way they want to, but that's normal. I look at it as we are on lap one out of lap twenty. We have time to get better."

The team has this weekend off before it travels to Boise, Idaho, to kick off October.
