The Montana men's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss at the hands of 45th-ranked Boise State Saturday morning at the Boas Tennis Center in Boise.
The loss was the second shutout in as many days for Montana (4-3) with a 7-0 setback to Cal Poly Friday. Boise State (11-5) has now won three-straight.
The Griz and Boncos played the doubles matches Friday night after Montana had played their match against Cal Poly. The fatigue was obvious to coach Kris Nord.
"I feel like our doubles play was strong against Cal Poly," Nord said. "Against Boise State it was a different story."
The No. 1 Singles matchup of Carl Kuschke and BSU's Damian Hume was hard fought battle. Kuschke won the first set 6-4 and lost a tightly contested second set 7-5. Hume closed out the win with a 10-4 win in the super-breaker.
"Carl had his chances to win the match, but Damian came up with some really tough shots to pull out the win," Nord said. "It would have been a great win for Carl but I feel like he played really well."
The middle of the lineup was again strong for the Grizzlies, although there were no wins to show for it.
Micheal Facey fell 6-4, 6-0 to Nathan Sereke in the No. 3 spot and Ethan Vaughn dropped the No. 4 match 6-4, 6-0.
"I don't think we played as well as I thought we could have played," Nord said. "These matches will help us down the line but I feel like we should have challenged them a little more."
The Montana team will play their first conference match of the season next Saturday when they visit Portland State. The Vikings are currently 0-4 in Big Sky play but hope to improve that mark when they meet Weber State Sunday. The Grizzlies are the only Big Sky team who has not played a conference game.
