Grizzlies on the road to play new Big Sky member North Dakota this Saturday

GAME #8 OF 2012: The University of Montana Grizzlies (3-4/1-3 BSC) are back on the road, as they play North Dakota (3-4/1-3 BSC) in Grand Forks, N.D., in a Big Sky Conference game in UND's Alerus Center (12,283) on Saturday, Oct. 20, with kickoff at 1:40 p.m. (Mountain). The game will be televised by ROOT Sports. GRIZ RADIO: Veteran Mick Holien calls the play-by-play for Griz football for his 20th season in a row. Former Griz (1991-94) wide receiver Scott Gurnsey and Greg Sundberg provide color commentary. UM's flagship station is KGVO Radio, 1290 AM/KVWE 101.5 FM. The Griz won the last meeting, 27-17 in Missoula in 2010. The last time the teams played in Grand Forks was in 1973, North Dakota winning 31-10. Montana is 4-3-1 all-time at UND; the Griz lead the series 5-2 in Missoula; and it is tied 2-2 in neutral site (played in Billings, Mont.) games. GRIZ LAST WEEK: Southern Utah 30, at Montana 20: The Thunderbirds handed the Grizzlies another disappointing loss in front of a home crowd of 25,684 in Washington-Grizzly Stadium. OFFENSIVE LEADERS VERSUS SUU: Senior running back Peter Nguyen led the Grizzlies with 15 carries for 91 yards. Sophomore running back Jordan Canada had 11 rushes for 71 yards. As a team, Montana rushed 42 times for 224 yards. Freshman quarterback Trent McKinney was 17-of-29-1 for 194 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 29 yards and a TD. DEFENSIVE LEADERS VS. SUU: Junior linebacker Brock Coyle led the Montana defense with 13 tackles, along with 2 forced fumbles, and he had one of UM's seven sacks. Junior linebacker Jordan Tripp had 6 tackles and 3 tackles for loss, while sophomore end Zack Wagenmann had 1.5 sacks. Sophomore cornerback Josh Dennard had 7 tackles and broke up five passes. MONTANA'S WEEKLY POW NOMINEES: Nguyen was UM's nominee for the Big Sky's offensive player of the week, while Coyle was the nominee on defense. NGUYEN MOVES UP TO 11TH ON MONTANA'S CAREER RUSHING YARDS LIST: Nguyen, from Seattle, Wash., now has 1,590 career rushing yards to move up to 11th in school history. He needs 103 yards to pass Dick Imer and move up to 10th.
