2012 Honors Candidate

Montana: William is another outstanding young lineman. He was pressed into action as a true freshman. He will start at right guard, and he also has the ability to play tackle.

2011: He played in all 14 games and started in two (at Tennessee and versus Cal Poly).

2010: He saw action and lettered as a true freshman.

High School: He earned three letters in both football and wrestling and was a team captain in both sports at Chandler High School...was a 5A first-team all-state and all-region selection as a senior and all-region as a junior...his high school football coach was Jim Ewan...had a record of 16-2 as a heavyweight wrestler his junior season.

Personal: His major is health and human performance. His parents are Vern and Christine Poehls of Chandler. Birth date: Nov. 27, 1991.

Quoting Coach Delaney: "William started off an on for us last year, and he's another guy with a great work ethic. He has great feet for a guy his size. He needs to have better knee bend, but he is starting to get better in that area. He's awful hard on himself, and in the same term, he has not had that consistency down after down.

"He was a young man who just dominated by being the biggest guy on the block (in high school). Now he has to have better technique, and by doing that will give him more consistency. He needs to understand that he has to play as hard as you can on every single play and finish. He wants to do that, and he is working towards that. Now it is just a matter of him having a great summer of working on knee bend and change of direction, and not playing with his pads so high up.

"William is a lot like Danny (Kistler), in that he does not have a clue on how much potential he has. It's up to us to coach him up and get that potential going, so that he becomes a top-notch offensive lineman."
