MONTANA: Derek is the back-up and right defensive end and will see plenty of action this season.

2012: He played in all 11 games and was 17th on the team with 20 tackles. He was named to the All-Big Sky Conference academic team. He is a Dean's List student, maintaining a 4.0 GPA in chemistry.

2011: He was a redshirt at Montana. He enrolled at UM in the winter semester of 2011.

HIGH SCHOOL: He lettered in football (three), wrestling (three), and track (four) at Whitefish High School...he was an all-state pick at defensive line as a senior in 2009...senior year he was voted defensive MVP and served as a team captain...all-conference first selection at linebacker and fullback as a junior...prep football coach was Pat Dryden...team captain in wrestling as a junior, and tabbed "Hardest Worker" this season...had a 4.0 GPA and was a member of the national honor society, serving as class valedictorian.

CAREER HIGHS: He had 4 tackles against Liberty last season. He had a sack at Northern Colorado in 2012.
