Montana at Davidson Game Notes Get Acrobat Reader

THE GAME: The 13th-ranked (CollegeInsider.com's Mid-Major Top 25 Poll) University of Montana Grizzlies (19-5/15-1 BSC) step out of their Big Sky Conference slate, playing the 10th-ranked (CollegeInsider.com's Mid-Major Top 25 Poll) Davidson College Wildcats (20-7/15-1 Southern Conference) in a Ramada BracketBusters game, Saturday, Feb. 23, with tip-off in DC's John M. Belk Arena (5,223/press row phone: 704-894-7267) at 1:05 p.m. (Mtn.) on a game that will be televised on ESPNU.

RADIO/STREAMING: The "Voice of the Griz" is Mick Holien, a 13-time "Montana Broadcaster of the Year," who calls the action on local KGVO Radio (1290 AM/101.5 FM) and the Griz Radio Network for his 20th season in a row. TELEVISION: The game will be televised on ESPNU. The announcers are Roy Philpott and Paul Biancardi.

LEAGUE WIN STREAK SNAPPED: Montana's record-breaking, 25-game Big Sky regular-season winning streak ended with an 87-63 loss at Weber State on Feb. 14. UM had just broken the league record of 24 wins in a row set by WSU from 1967-68 to 1969-70.

GRIZ TIE MARK: With their 78-58 home victory over North Dakota (Feb. 9), the Griz tied their own school record for consecutive wins with 14 -- a mark they set last season.

GRIZ-WILDCAT SERIES: This is the first meeting between Montana and Davidson.

GRIZ RANKED NATIONALLY IN FT% & 3-POINT%: The Griz are ranked eighth in the nation in free throw percentage at 76.3%, while Davidson is the leader at 81.3%. Montana is ranked 17th in 3-point percentage at 39.4%, and the leader is Creighton at 42.9%.

CHERRY UPDATE: Senior guard Will Cherry is UM's all-time leader in career steals with 258, which ranks him second in Big Sky history. Cherry is seventh in career scoring with 1,418 points. He's fourth in career assists with 388. (See add 3 for Will's stats rankings).

100TH START: Cherry will be making his 100th career start at Davidson.

1000-POINT CLUB!: UM's Kareem Jamar and Mathias Ward are both nearing the 1,000-point plateau in their careers. There are 27 players (including Cherry), who have scored 1,000 or more career points at Montana. Jamar has 972 career points and needs just 28 more to reach 1,000, while Ward has 933, and he needs 67 more to get to 1,000 points.

WARD OUT FOR BRACKETBUSTERS GAME: Ward, a 6-7 senior forward from Gig Harbor, Wash., will miss the Davidson game due to an injury he suffered late in the contest at Idaho State last Saturday. Ward has started all 24 games this season and is Montana's leading scorer at 14.8 points a game, which ranks him fifth in the league.
