Spring game Q&A
April 8, 2012
1. Why is the scrimmage in Missoula a big deal this year?
The Grizzly Scholarship Association typically takes the football spring scrimmage on the road as a way to get out across Montana and thank Griz Nation. With the installation of new lights in Washington-Grizzly Stadium this year, the GSA chose to host the game on our home field for the first time in over a decade.
2. Where will the proceeds from the scrimmage go?
All of the proceeds from the spring scrimmage will go toward the UM Athletic Facilities Projects.
3. What is the cost?
$5 per person. Infants do not need a ticket, but toddlers do.
4. Are there assigned seats?
It is all general admission seating. WGS east side, levels 2 and 3 will be reserved for Stadium Club members, suite holders and their guests.
5. Can anyone go into the Stadium Club?
No, the Stadium Club will be open to club members and suite holders only. Club members and suite holders should have received a special invitation with details.
6. Will suites be open?
No. Because this is a fundraiser, the cost associated with opening the suites was deemed too expensive. Suite holders have the opportunity to purchase tickets in the Stadium Club.
7. What time is kickoff?
8. What time do the gates open to the stadium?
9. Will there be a tailgate?
Yes, there will be a tailgate. The spring tailgate sponsored by the GSA will open at 4 p.m. and will be a family affair. There will be music, games for the kids with our student-athletes, food, soda and other beverages available to purchase.
10. What time is the tailgate?
4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
11. Do you have to be a GSA member to attend the tailgate?
No! The GSA Tailgate is always open to the public. You must be 21 or older to purchase and drink alcoholic beverages.
12. What types of games for the kids?
There will be a variety of things going on such as bean bag toss, tattoo/face painting and hoops. Griz student-athletes will be running the games.
13. Are regular season tailgate spots available to purchase for the scrimmage?
Because this is a fundraiser with all of the proceeds benefiting the UM Athletic Facilities Projects, we hope that everyone will attend the GSA tailgate. There will be plenty of space for all to enjoy.
14. Is there a charge to park?
No, but we do ask that you consider making a donation to one of our donation buckets that will be located in the tailgate area and at each of the entrances to Washington-Grizzly Stadium.
15. Will there be any Griz gear available to purchase?
Yes, the UM Bookstore will be on site selling great merchandise. They will have a booth in the tailgate area as well as shops open in the stadium.
16. Will concessions stands be open in the stadium?
17. What makes it more exciting than a regular scrimmage?
The 2012 Griz football spring scrimmage will be as close to a Griz game day as we can possibly make a scrimmage. Pending injuries, it will be a Maroon vs. Silver scrimmage (instead of offense vs. defense), the team will warm-up and then run out of the tunnel like they do on Saturdays in the fall. There will be in-game entertainment and a halftime. Monte will also be around!
18. What other reasons are there for attending?
We will be debuting the lights in Washington-Grizzly Stadium and we are trying to set an FCS spring scrimmage attendance record. The more Griz fans we pack into the stadium for the scrimmage, the cooler it will be. It is a great opportunity to show support for our student-athletes.
19. Are there any post-game activities planned?
Yes, the Griz football players will stick around and run some football drills/games on the field (under the lights) for any kids (and kids at heart) who wish to play. They will also sign autographs.
20. Do tickets need to be purchased in advance?
We suggest purchasing tickets in advance to avoid lines; however we will not turn anyone away. Tickets will be on sale at the tailgate and at most gates in addition to GrizTix in the Adams Center. For a complete list of ticket outlets in Missoula and across the state, click here.
21. Do UM students need to purchase a ticket?
UM students may attend for free by showing a valid Griz Card at any gate.
