Dave will be beginning his 34th football season in the fall of 2012, and he will celebrate 33 years of service at The University of Montana in October of that year. He started as the sports information director for the Grizzlies in October of 1978. Primary job responsibilities include involvement in all facets of media relations, re: publications, press releases, feature writing, game management and statistics, research, and web site management. Named Associate Athletic Director for External and Media Relations in 2005. Promoted to Assistant Athletic Director, Media Relations in 1997. Chairman of Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame since it began (1993-present). Media experience: color commentator in football and basketball for radio and in football for television. Was the master of ceremonies at weekly booster luncheon (Grizzly Dens) from 1979-2005. Serves as "MC" for numerous university-related functions. MISC.: Has served as a public address announcer for several Grizzly sports, as well as American Legion Baseball games. JOB-RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES: Write and edit weekly press releases, and update statistics and records for distribution to state, conference, and national media. Design, edit, and update team and indivudual records for annual athletic department publications (press guides/yearbooks). Provide copy for football and basketball game programs. Oversee home game management for press box logistics and official game statistics (football and men's basketball). ALSO: Media director of UM's (men's) annual Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament, 1980 to 2010. Serve as liaison between athletes and coaches with local, state, and national media. Serve on numerous athletic department committees as determined by the Athletic Director. ACCOMPLISHMENTS/WORK-RELATED EXPERIENCE: Montana Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Significant Contribution to Amateur Football Award, 2011. All-America Football Foundation "Scoop Huggins Outstanding SID Award," 2007. Recipient of more than 30 "Citations For Excellence" at the District and National levels from the College Sports Information Director's of America (Co-SIDA) for press guides, amd game programs. Served on several national Co-SIDA committees. ALSO: Media Coordinator, NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Regional, 1993. Big Sky Conference postseason basketball tournament media coordinator, 1991 and 1992, 2000,2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012. MISC.: Co-author of book on UM football: "Montana Grizzlies: Odyssey to a National Championship," December, 1998. ALSO: Media Director for Big Sky Conference Track & Field Championships, 1982, 1983, 1990, 1994, 2008. Committee member for Grizzly Football (1982-92) and Basketball (1979-92) Hall of Fames. Publicity Director, USABA National Championships for the Blind, 1983. State Media Director, Montana Special Olympics, 1979 and 1980. Co-media director, NCAA Women's Basketball First or Second round games, numerous years. COMMUNITY-RELATED ACTIVITIES: Missoula Little League Baseball Coach, 1993-2000. YMCA & AAU Boy's Basketball Coach in Missoula, 1993-2008. Served on the Board of Directors for Missoula Mavericks Legion Baseball Program, 1997-2001. Worked as the media and statistics coordinator for numerous high school state and divisional track and basketball tournaments.
